Lately most of my photography has been sewing and craft related, so I haven’t had many new wallpapers to share with you.  However, came across these gorgeous July calendars today. I love that he has so many because I tend to change my wallpaper every few days.  ;-)

june strawberries widescreen wallpaperLast year I thought it would be a nice idea to plant some strawberries in one of our raised beds.  I order 25 plants of Gurney’s Fort Laramie strawberry.

What a bummer it was to read the directions and find that for the first year I was supposed to pick off all the blossoms from June to July.  This meant we got a grand total of six strawberries last year. :-(

This morning, after picking a bowlful  I can attest that it was worth the wait!  These are tender, delicate little berries that you will never find in a supermarket.  Their flavor is incredible, sweet and tart and full to bursting.

If you’re thinking about planting strawberries yourself, here are a few things to consider:

  • As I mentioned, you will need to forgo a crop the first year, in order for the roots to be established nice and strong.
  • You may need to provide some protection from critters.  I haven’t looked into this much yet, but there’s something out there that likes to take just one bite out of ripe berries, and leave the rest. Most annoying.
  • They spread like crazy.  A raised bed is ideal because it keeps them contained, but you might as well give them the whole bed.  (I had planted the strawberries at the recommended spacing, and thought I’d fill in the remaining space with some leeks and garlic.  You can see in the below photo that the leeks and garlic have been thoroughly overtaken.)

I’m off to dice some strawberries into my granola.  Enjoy the wallpaper!

purple hyacinths Just in time for Easter I’m coming out of photography hibernation and have this lovely hyacinth background for you.  I’m really pleased with the way this one came out; the soft colors and dreamy background are just perfect.

One thing I’m learning as a photographer is that it’s the gray overcast days that make for nice photos.  I’m a big fan of bright sunshine, so it’s taken me a while to get a grip on that idea.  :-)

It had been hoped by many that I would have more winter pics this year.  There were several times when I thought of you all and saw photo ops (particularly one brook that I drive by regularly that looked lovely with its banks all covered with snow.) However, I could never seem to persuade myself to pull the car over (anyhow there was no place closer than ½ mile to park because of the snow) then trudge through knee to waist deep snow only to risk falling into the brook myself while taking the photo.  (My husband will agree, owing to my inherent klutziness, that that’s a definite possibility.) So, yeah, it never happened.  Sorry.  Hope you like flower pictures.

hope for springEven in the dead of winter, these buds give me hope for spring.  It WILL come, it always does, just as he has promised.

“While the eath remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” Genesis 8:22

sage with a hint of snowThis little sage plant must be tough, to be able to withstand all the snow we’ve had in New England so far this winter.

red berries on evergreen bushes covered with snowWith several inches of newly fallen snow, and some time to kill at my son’s doctor’s office, I decided to it would be a shame to stay warm and dry in the car.  Instead I bundled up and ventured out to see what I could see.  (Something, you’ll note, I don’t do often, judging by the dire lack of photos in the “Winter” category!)

Mind you, this was in suburbia and there were no lovely snowy vistas to be found.  However, it’s amazing what you find when you put your camera in macro mode.

Hope you enjoy this one as much as I have.  To make Snow Berries your widescreen desktop wallpaper, click here, or here for standard format.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

This handsome fellow was seen at King Richard’s Faire when he was 10 months old.  He is a rare male white tiger and his name is Lord Ivory.  He is lordly indeed!

I just love cats, I think it’s something about that smug air of superiority they all have, whether wild or domestic.  Such amazing creatures.

Blessings,

Sandy

The Grand Canyon from the airI had a layover in Las Vegas on my way home from a trip to New Mexico.  It occurred to me that we just might be flying over the Grand Canyon, and a peek at a map confirmed this.

I’m so glad I thought of it, because the pilot never even mentioned that we were going to pass right over this natural wonder.

Anyhow, this is one of the few shots I got without the wing in the way.  I hope you enjoy this spectacular bit of God’s creation.

autumn leaves and white church steepleDoesn’t this just make you want to go apple picking or hop on a hayride?  It’s the quintessential New England scene.

Actually, at least one Sunday out of every October for the past several years, I’ve walked out of church, looked up at those gorgeous autumn leaves against the crisp blue sky and said, “I oughtta take a picture of that.”  Finally, this year, my husband grabbed the camera and did so.

Click here if you’d like to enjoy this as your widescreen wallpaper, or here for standard format wallpaper.

Wishing you blessings,

Sandy

P.S.  Not only is this a lovely scene, it’s also my home church, Grace Bible in East Bridgewater.  You can learn more about it at www.gracebiblehome.org.

sunflower yellow and orangeThis lovely sunflower is from a collection I planted along my patio, it’s called Autumn Beauty, and it surely lives up to its name.

When I planted, I had visions of bringing you gorgeous photos of a mass of sunflowers of all different types, colors and heights. It was wonderful in my mind. Sadly, the neighborhood critters had different ideas. I had to cut and bring all of my sunflowers inside to enjoy, as the squirrels were destroying them to get at the seeds. They had the nerve to break off the stalks, rip off the heads, and then go sit at my picnic table to feast. (My husband suggested I just put the rest of the flowers on a silver platter for ‘em. )

Now that it’s October and getting chilly, I finally have to accept that summer is over. I love the warm weather, but, for consolation, the colors this time of year are glorious. I hope to bring you more soon.

Meanwhile you can enjoy this Autumn Beauty as your computer background. Click here for widescreen wallpaper, and here for standard format wallpaper.

Blessings!

Sandy
