Do I need wide-screen or regular format wallpaper?
Most of you probably already know if you have a wide-screen or regular format computer monitor. If you're not sure, here's an easy way to find out:
For those of you with Windows computers: Windows 98 & XP Right click on any empty space on your computer desktop. A small box should pop up. Click on "Properties." Now click on the "Settings" tab. Somewhere on that page it should tell you your Screen Resolution.
Windows Vista Right click on any empty space on your computer desktop. A small box should pop up. Click on "Personalize." Now click on "Display Settings." Somewhere on that page it should tell you your Screen Resolution. Windows 7 Right click on any empty space on your computer desktop. A small box should pop up. Click on "Screen Resolution." Somewhere on that page it should tell you your Screen Resolution.
For those of you with Macs: Mac OS X 10.x From the Apple Menu pull down to "System Preferences." When the "System Preference" window opens click on "Displays." Look in the left-hand column named "Resolutions" for your current settings.
Mac OS 9.xFrom the Apple Menu pull down to "Control Panels"
From with the "Control Panels" window double click on "Monitors"
When the "Monitors" control panel opens it will open in the default "Monitor" view (the other option is the "Color" view). In this view the bottom half of the window is split into two panes, the right pane is named "resolution". In this pane is listed the current resolution. Now that you know your screen resolution:
Grab a calculator and divide the smaller number by the larger. For example, my screen resolution is 1440 x 900, so I will divide 900 by 1440 and get 0.625.
Your answer should either be 0.75, which means you have a regular format monitor, or 0.625, which means you have a wide screen. If your wallpaper still isn't fitting properly on your desktop:
Try right clicking on any empty space on your desktop, click on "Properties" (XP), "Personalize" (Vista) or "Change Desktop Background" (Mac) and select the "Desktop" tab. Under "Position" choose "Stretch," NOT "Center," NOT "Tile."
